Rotobrush Coil Cleaning: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
We stock Rotobrush-compatible coil cleaning brushes and swap them out for Dallas homeowners every week. Installed replacement typically runs $140 to $285 depending on which Rotobrush system you own and whether it’s the brush head alone or the full coil cleaning assembly. Most owners call us after their system stops pulling the brush through evaporator coils cleanly, or when the bristles have flattened to the point the coil fins barely get touched. If that sounds like your unit, keep reading. We’ll tell you exactly what fits, what it costs, and what actually fails first. And if you’d rather skip the research, call (361) 309-6223 and Roy will walk you through it.
Which Rotobrush Models This Applies To
Rotobrush has shipped several coil cleaning configurations over the years, and the brush assembly isn’t universal across them. The units we see most in Dallas homes are the Rotobrush aiR+ and the older Rotobrush R5000 series with the coil cleaning attachment. Each uses a different brush hub diameter and shaft length, so a brush bought for an aiR+ won’t seat properly on an R5000, and vice versa. The quickest way to identify what you need is to pull the brush and check the shaft collar: aiR+ shafts run 1/4 inch with a knurled locking ring, while R5000 brushes use a 5/16 inch shaft with a spring-loaded detent. If the label is worn off and you’re not sure, we can match it from a photo before you ever schedule a visit. Keep in mind: we’re an independent service provider, not a Rotobrush factory outlet. That means we stock both OEM brushes and quality aftermarket equivalents, and we’ll tell you plainly which one makes sense for your system’s age. On a ten-year-old R5000, we usually recommend a well-built aftermarket brush at roughly 40 percent less than OEM. On a newer aiR+, we’ll push OEM because the tolerances are tighter and the warranty matters more.

Signs Your Rotobrush Coil Cleaning Is Failing
- The brush spins but doesn’t clean the coil face. Bristles have worn down below the depth needed to reach between fins. On Dallas systems that run long cooling seasons, this happens faster than manufacturers admit because the brush is hitting coil after coil in unconditioned attics.
- You feel vibration through the handle or flex shaft. The brush hub bearing is going. When it’s worn, the brush wobbles on the shaft instead of sitting true, and you’ll feel it long before it seizes.
- Bristles are shedding or visibly flattened on one side. Once the bristle pattern breaks down, you’re just pushing dirt around on the coil face, not pulling it out. This is common on units that have been stored in hot garages between jobs across Dallas summers.
- The locking collar won’t stay tight. The knurled ring or detent on the brush hub has worn. It’ll slip mid-rotation and score the shaft, which then compounds the problem until the brush won’t seat at all.
- The coil cleaning attachment no longer reaches the far side of the coil. This points to a bent or shortened flex shaft from previous use at an angle. Once that shaft kinks, it doesn’t straighten out, and the brush can’t apply even pressure.
Any one of these is enough to leave coils half-cleaned. Roy Castellanos sees it often here in Dallas: a homeowner thinks their system just needs more passes, when the real issue is a brush that stopped doing its job months ago. If you’re seeing two or three of these signs, the fix is a replacement, not more elbow grease.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we quote in Dallas, in writing, before any work starts. These are installed prices, not parts-only: the brush or assembly, the swap, and verification that everything seats and spins true.
- Aftermarket coil cleaning brush only (fits R5000 and select aiR+ units): $140 – $175 installed.
- OEM Rotobrush brush assembly (aiR+ and newer systems): $195 – $240 installed.
- OEM coil cleaning attachment package, brush plus flex shaft and hub: $240 – $285 installed.
The range comes down to what your unit needs. If the shaft is scored or the hub bearing is shot, there’s no point installing a new brush on worn parts. We’ll show you what’s actually worn, tell you what we’d do if it were our own machine, and then you decide. Every replacement is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge, including a free second visit. That’s in writing on the invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
You can absolutely check the brush yourself. Pull it, look at the bristles, spin the hub by hand to feel for wobble. That’s a five-minute inspection and it’ll tell you whether the brush is the problem. Where DIY goes wrong is trying to rebuild a coil cleaning assembly without the right shaft tolerance or running an aftermarket brush that doesn’t seat correctly on your unit. A brush that runs off-center at speed will score the flex shaft and then you’re replacing the whole assembly, not just the brush. This isn’t high-tension or electrical work, but it is precision work. If you’re not certain which shaft diameter you have, or the collar isn’t locking square, call (361) 309-6223. We’ll match it correctly the first time, and you won’t pay for guesswork.
FAQs
In Dallas, with our long cooling season, expect two to three years of regular use before bristles start flattening. Storing the brush in a hot garage or van between jobs shortens that, as does running it at an angle against coil fins instead of square. If your brush is older than three seasons and you clean coils weekly, it’s already past its useful life even if it looks acceptable.
Not realistically. Once bristles have flattened or the hub bearing has worn, there’s no way to restore either. Replacing the brush head or the full assembly is the only repair that makes sense, and it’s less expensive than the time lost cleaning coils with a brush that isn’t doing the work. Call (361) 309-6223 for an exact match and price.
Thirty minutes or less, start to finish. We verify the shaft fit, swap the brush or assembly, run it to confirm it seats and spins true, and then you’re done. If we’re replacing the flex shaft and hub too, figure closer to an hour.
Yes. Our Dallas trucks carry the common aftermarket and OEM brushes for aiR+ and R5000 systems, along with replacement hubs and flex shafts. If your unit needs something outside that, we’ll have it within a couple of business days. We also stock parts for Lennox, Trane, and Carrier systems for customers who run more than one brand.
Clean ducts, straight answers, that’s the whole job. If your Rotobrush coil cleaning brush is done, call (361) 309-6223 and we’ll get you matched, priced in writing, and back to work.
